TROJANS CONTINUE STRONG START, TOP MODESTO 1-0
September 9, 2009

The Skyline College Women's Soccer team stayed undefeated this season and earned their third shutout win in four games, stopping nationally ranked Modesto JC 1-0. Nour Abudamous slotted home a loose ball in the six yard box in the 68th minute and Marie Torres had 8 saves as the Trojans beat Modesto JC for the first time ever.

Modesto entered the game ranked #5 in the latest NSCAA/Adidas National rankings, and held a six game win streak over the Trojans. Skyline finished the game with six shots on goal, none bigger than Midori Sera's strike from the top of the penalty box that was deflected away by the Modesto goalkeeper, right to Abudamous who calmly found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Torres and Skyline's defense held Modesto to just four shots on goal.

Skyline will host perennial Coast Conference powerhouse and 2008 state playoff participant West Valley College of Saratoga on Tuesday, Sept. 15th @ 2:00pm in their final pre-conference game of the season.

SKYLINE BATTLES FOOTHILL TO ROAD DRAW
September 5, 2009

Skyline traveled to Foothill College of Los Altos on Friday and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw with the defending league champs. The Trojans scored early in the match when freshman forward Lisa Kurpieski hooked on to a pass from defender Jamie Parque and outpaced the Foothill defender down the left side of the field before sending a high shot over the outstretched arms of the Foothill goalkeeper.

The Trojans defensive line of Taylor Hill, Jenna Motylewski, Meranda Bradley, Parque and goalkeeper Marie Torres held off the potent Foothill offense for most of the game, but with just two minutes remaining in the match, the Owls scored the equalizer. Torres had seven saves, including several highlight reel efforts to keep the score level before the final whistle blew.

Skyline (2-0-1) will host Modesto JC (2-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 8th at 2:30pm. The Trojans fell 3-1 at Modesto last season and the Pirates advanced all the way to the state final four in 2008, before falling in the semi-finals to eventual state champions Cerritos.
