TRiO Counselor

I will update this with more information about TRiO. TRiO is a federally funded program designed to serve first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities achieve the goal of attaining an associate's degree and transferring to a four-year university.

As a counselor, TRiO students have access to academic, career, and personal support specifically designed to help TRiO students succeed.

COUN 100 Professor

Counseling 100 is a college success course that is open to all students at Skyline College. This course is 3 units and transfers credit to both the UC's and CSU's. The Counseling 100 courses use Skip Downing's On Course as the main textbooks following On Course strategies, domains, and activites to help students be successful.

Counseling 100 courses are taught by college counselors. Currently, there are no online courses for Coun 100, but the strategies learned in these courses are best learned interacting with others and in person.

Student Success Workshops, New Student Orientations, Academic Senate Treasurer

I have lead Student Success workshops for students on academic/ probation dismissal, new student orientations for new matriulating students, and was elected as Academic Senate Treasure before leaving my faculty role to take an administrative position as Learning Center and TRiO Director.

Resources

There are many resources students can take advantage of both on campus and off campuse. The key is knowing where to look, how to access them, and being able to ask for help when needed.

College Scholarships

College scholarships are great because they are offered year round. You can apply for private scholarships at any point, as long as you meet their selection criteria. Each college scholarship will have a unique deadline, so it's important for you to be on top of those important dates.

Scholarships and grants for college are the two types of aid you never want to turn down. The reason being is you will never have to pay this money back. Scholarships and grants tend to be free of restrictions, however, some do require criteria such as GPA, number of units per semester, etc.
