    Colombetti

Course Description:

An introduction to deductive logic and probability theory. The principles of logic underlie every field of inquiry and every academic discipline. This course is an introduction to formal systems of logic. We will concentrate on techniques for translating English statements into a symbolic language and techniques for proving the validity or invalidity of deductive arguments. We will learn about and practice the methods of natural deduction in truth-functional logic and predicate logic. We will also learn how to apply Bayes' Theorem for conditional probabilities to practical problems.
