    PHIL 100: Introduction to Philosophy

    Colombetti

Course Description:

To have a "philosophy" means to have carefully considered and reasoned positions (or to adopt skepticism) on the most general and fundamental questions that one can ask. Philosophical questions are "open-ended" in the sense that they have not been answered to everyone's satisfaction. Nevertheless, some proposed solutions are better justified than others. This course is a survey of philosophical views concerning the nature of consciousness, the existence of God, the possibility of knowledge, free will, moral values, political ideals, and other topics. It also incorporates an introduction to the methods of logic and critical thinking.
