Health Career Fast Track Course Descriptions:

HSCI 100 - General Health Science
(10 high school credits and 3 college credits)

Introduction to basic concepts of personal health with an emphasis on promotion of physical and emotional well-being. Analysis of contemporary health issues with a focus on detection, treatment, and prevention of health problems. Discussion of physiological, social, and psychological factors influencing the health and well-being of individuals throughout the life span. CSU, UC

HSCI 105 - Communicable Diseases
(3 high school credits and 1 college credits)

A comprehensive overview of the cause, transmission, symptoms and prevention of major communicable diseases. Students increase their awareness by taking responsibility for their own health. Transfer: CSU E1

HSCI 115 - Introduction to Health Care and
the Health Professions

(10 high school credits and 3 college credits)

This course explores the practice and politics of health care within the United States. It examines trends and opportunities within healthcare services and surveys the diversity of health professions. The course is ideally suited for students considering a career in the health and medical field. CSU

BIOL 130 - Human Biology
(10 high school credits and 3 college credits)

Study of biological principles using the human body as a model. Topics include the structure and function of major organ systems, common disorders, heredity, evolution, and human ecological roles. CSU, UC



Standards Based Curriculum

We are currently in the process of aligning the curricula for HSCI 100 and HSCI 115 with California Department of Education standards. These courses are already of exceptional quality and are accepted by CSU and UC institutions. Aligning the classes with CDE standards will only strengthen the curricula, enhance the connection between high school and college, and ensure a quality experience.
