Zapotec Weaver to Discuss Ancient Craft
Zapotec rugs are gorgeous hand crafted rugs made by the Zapotec Indians from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. These hand made rugs are known around the world for their traditional craftsmanship, bright colors, and classic styles.
Pastora Gutierrez, president of her women's weaving collective from Oaxaca, Mexico, will exhibit natural dyed handcrafted wool rugs, answer questions about the designs and explain the labor-intensive process that has been passed down through generations of Zapotec women. Gutierrez will speak on Friday, Sept. 11 in the Cañada College Main Theater, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City. Her lecture will start at 5:30 p.m. Gutierrez will also talk about Zapotec culture and have rugs for sale.
