Cañada College Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month
Celebration includes poster contest, movie, and book display.
Cañada College is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in October with a series of events designed to educate and entertain. The events include:
- Hispanic Heritage Trivia Contest. You can participate in the contest by completing a questionnaire and submitting it to the EOPS Office, Building 9, Room 133, by Thursday, Oct. 15. By entering you'll have a chance to win gift cards from local restaurants and campus vendors.
- Hispanic Heritage Books and Articles. The Cañada College library is featuring a diplay of print and electronic library resources related to Hispanic history, culture, society and politics. The display will be available through October.
- How to Make Papel Picado. Learn how artists create elaborate designs by cutting paper. The event will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12 in the cafeteria.
- Poster Session Contest. Students can share a part of their Latino culture through a poster session contest. Contest prizes include gift cards from local restaurants, campus vendors, and more. - Hispanic Heritage Movie: Quinceañera. Quinceañera focuses on a young woman, Magdalena. As she approaches her 15th birthday her simple, blissful life is complicated by the discovery that she's pregnant. Kicked out of her house, she finds a new family with her great-grand uncle and gay cousin. The movie will be shown from noon to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 in the Main Theater.
