To develop your final project into a web page, you should:

  • Go to the Oral research project webpage template
  • Save the project webpage template file on your computer.
    IMPORTANT: When saving:
    • change the file name to: index.html,
    • change "Save as Type" to: Web page, html only (*.htm, *.html) (in some web browsers, this may be called: html source),
    • save this file in the same folder that contains any pictures (.jpg) or sound files (.mp3) you want to include in your page

This gives you a basic structure of a web page which you can edit and to which you can add your own information.

  • Start Microsoft Word and open the index.html file using Microsoft Word.
(Important: Do not just open this file directly from the folder by clicking on it.  This will open the file in your browser and you will not be able to edit it.)

To create hyperlinks and bookmarks:

" Hyperlinks" allow you to let the reader jump from one place to another in your web page (called a "bookmark") and from your web page to another anywhere else on the Internet.

You can insert a bookmark within your page in order to identify where to hyperlink (from another part of your page) should jump to. For example, you can create a table of contents of all of your audio segments or any other sections in your web page and allow the reader to jump down to each of the different sections on your page. "Bookmarks" mark each spot where you want a reader to be able to jump to.

To insert a bookmark:

a. Place the cursor in the location where you want to insert the bookmark.

b. Click on the Insert tab and then click on Bookmark

c. Under Bookmark name, type or select a name.

d. Click Add.

Note Bookmark names must begin with a letter. You cannot include spaces in a bookmark name.

    • to link to another webpage, enter the exact URL (web address) for the webpage you want to link to. Be sure to always start a URL with: http://

    • click on the “Target Frame” button (at the right side of the Edit Hyperlink dialog box)
    • click on the pull-down menu in the Set Target Frame dialog box and select “New Window
    • click OK in the Set Target Frame dialog box

    1. In Microsoft Word 2003 on Windows computers*, right-click on the white rectangle on the template
    2. Select Properties
