.....From the age of 8, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I was then the relative elected to teach our cousin, newly arrived from Sicily, English. I look back at those Sunday afternoons as my period of getting hooked on the wonders of teaching.

.....Years later, I earned my Bachelor's degree and teaching credential in English from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and a Master's degree from Kent State University. I enjoyed teaching all levels of high school English in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

.....After a few years teaching in Pepper Pike, Ohio, I left to pursue my great adventure, living overseas to experience life in different cultures and to learn a new language. In my two years in West Berlin, Germany, I learned to speak German fairly well; in my three years in London, I learned to speak English fairly well.

.....When I returned to the U.S., I headed straight for the most beautiful city in the country, San Francisco (not that I don't love Cleveland, Drew Carey).

.....I earned a credential in special education (Learning Handicapped) from San Francisco State University , and I began teaching at Skyline College as a part-time instructor in the Learning Disability program in 1986. I was hired as a full-time English professor in the fall of 1990. Along with Carla Campillo, I initiated the Puente Project on Skyline's campus in the spring of 1992.

I am currently Dean of the Language Arts Division/Learning Center.

.I have one son, Tom, 27 years old, who has moved to a foreign country, Los Angeles, and is a music producer.
