DGME 102 Media Law & Ethics

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.)
Why do you think they’re called “illegal” downloads? In this course, students will examine U.S. law and regulation governing mass media, from print to the Internet. Students will also examine the ethical conflicts faced by media professionals. Topics include: freedom of speech, citizen journalism, defamation, privacy, copyright, obscenity, truth, ethics and advertising. This course will help prepare future media producers to work in industries that have significant influence over society. Lecture: 48 hrs ( prerequisite: Eligibility for ENG 838 or ENG 848 or equivalent)

MULT 680MA Multimedia Career Pathways (ONLINE COURSE)

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.)
An Introduction to Multimedia Career Pathways that focuses on Multimedia career avenues within the Creative Industries. The course details the various skills needed in the specific areas of Multimedia including Graphics, Gaming and Animation, Interactive Media, Broadcast, Digital Photography and Electronic Music. Those who complete the course will have a better idea as to what Multimedia area(s) they may want to pursue as well as how to go about actively pursuing them.

MULT 102 Introduction to Multimedia

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours plus one lab hours by arrangement. Introduction to multimedia technologies that cover web, digital video, digital audio. Basic hardware and software used by professionals to create various productions. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU)

MULT 172 Dreamweaver

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour per week plus one lab hours by arrangement. Recommended Preparation: MULT 102 or the equivalent. Covers web page structure and web page creation using Dreamweaver, a popular professional web design tool. Students use the basic tools of Dreamweaver to examine,create, and edit web pages under different browser environments. Students develop a web site as part of the course. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU)

MULT 177 Multimedia Graphics (Photoshop/Fireworks)

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour per week plus one lab hours by arrangement. Prerequisite: MULT 102 and GRA 160 or the equivalent. Introduction to professional graphics applications Photoshop and Fireworks. Covers the basics of these software applications and the characteristics of various graphic file formats as applied to multimedia productions. This course will cover multimedia and web design features of Photoshop and Fireworks, as well as workflow between the two applications. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU)

MULT 253 Multimedia Design

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours per week. Recommended Preparation: MULT 177 or equivalent. Covers user interface design for a web site, interactive digital video, or interactive Flash production. Explores the various design elements that create a compelling, intuitive user interface. Explores navigation, emotional content, and “visual communication” elements to create an entertaining and informative user experience. Students design user interfaces for critique in class.(CSU)

MULT 274 Flash

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour per week plus one lab hours by arrangement. Recommended Preparation: MULT 177 equivalent. Introduces Adobe Flash,which is used to create vector animations for use on the web. Covers basic animation principles, Flash fundamentals, basic software functionality incorporating interactivity with the use of basic actionscript.(CSU)

MULT 279 Flash ActionScript

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour per week plus one lab hours by arrangement. Prerequisite: MULT 272 or equivalent. Continuation of MULT 272. Covers the advanced features of Flash, such as interactivity and scripting. Primary focus of this course is actionscript. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU)

MULT 292 DVD Studio Pro

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour plus one lab hours by arrangement per week. Prerequisite: MULT 177, 187 or equivalent. Covers the basic DVD principles, such as encoding, logical formats, and physical formats. Students work with DVD Studio Pro learning DVD production, including multiple audio and video streams, animated menus, navigation hierarchies, subtitling, and slide show features. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU) syllabus

MULT 392 Multimedia Internship

3 units (Credit/No Credit or letter grade option.) Three lecture hours and one lab hour per week plus one lab hour by arrangement. Prerequisites: MULT 177, 172, and 272; or equivalent. This is a capstone course to the Multimedia program. Students create multimedia projects using production and design techniques covered in previous courses. Students handle all aspects of design projects, including project planning, graphics, animations, web page creation and/or final output to other media. Maybe taken twice for a maximum of 6 units. (CSU)
