While these focus questions are to help you, they will not take the place of reading the book, and your class notes.

Chapter 1 and 2

How did the beginnings of agriculture contribute to the rise of civilization?

What are the characteristics of "civilization?"

Compare and contrast the characteristics of the Paleolithic and Neolithic Ages.

Compare and contrast the Sumerian civilization and the Egyptian civilization.

The Hebrews: Know how the Kingdom of Israel came about, the chracteristics of King David and Solomon's reign,

why the Jewish Diaspora came about.

Identify: Hammurabi and the Codes, Epic of Gilgamesh, Pharoah, theocracy, Covenant, Torah, Cyrus the Great (Persian Empire)

Chapter 3 - India

Know the chacteristics of Mohenjo-Daro, why is it so important to present day archaeologists?

Know the Harappan civilization and their contributions

Know the characteristics of the Aryans and the Vedic Age

Identify: raja, Brahmans, caste system, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra, Untouchables, karma, Eightfold Path, nirvana,

Know the Indian religions: Brahmanism, Jainism , Buddhism, Hinduism

You should concentrate on these focus questions, but certainly read through the entire chapters.
