Should I take Chemistry 192 first, or should I start out with Chemistry 210? CHEM 192 is an introductory Chemistry course that is intended to give a thorough introduction to the basic structure of matter and the calculations that needed to analyze chemical reactions. CHEM 192 or an equivalent course is strongly recommended for students enrolling in CHEM 210. Many full-year High School Chemistry courses and other college's introductory courses are equivalent to CHEM 192. Please speak to a counselor or Chemistry instuctor to see if a chemistry course you have taken is equivalent to CHEM 192. Most students should take CHEM 192 (or have previously completed an equivalent course) before enrolling in CHEM 210. Some students meet the published prerequisites for Chemistry 210, and have taken a recommended introductory Chemistry course previously, but are still unsuccessful when they take CHEM 210. Chemistry 192 may help you to enter Chemistry 210 with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful. You may want to speak with a counselor or a Chemistry instructor to discuss whether or not you should start your chemistry sequence with CHEM 192 or CHEM 210.
Even if you have taken a Chemistry course before, you should strongly consider taking Chemistry 192 before taking Chemistry 210 if the following circumstances apply to you:
Some students who have excelled in science and math courses, but who have not taken a Chemistry course before may still be successful in CHEM 210 without taking CHEM 192. If both of the following apply to you, you may want to speak with a counselor or a Chemistry instructor to discuss whether or not you should start your chemistry sequence with CHEM 192 or CHEM 210.
