Steve and Chief of Police
Steve Aurilio is a retired Police Sergeant of the Daly City Police Department, and has been teaching in the Administration of Justice Program at Skyline College since 1995. He is a graduate of both the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and the Law Enforcement Supervisory Leadership Institute at the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Training in Sacramento.

He has a Masters Degree in Public Administration (Criminal Justice) from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont; a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Service (Criminal Justice) from the University of San Francisco; and an Associate of Arts Degree and Criminal Justice Certificate from the College of San Mateo. He holds a California Community Colleges Lifetime Teaching Credential, and has been an instructor at the local law enforcement agency level for most of his police career.

During his 33 year career, Steve has worked as a supervisor in the Patrol, Detective, Community/Juvenile, and Training/Recruitment divisions. He has also been the team leader of the Hostage Negotiations Unit, the Gang Intelligence Unit, and the Street Crimes Suppression Unit. His last assignment before retiring was Patrol Supervisor on the day shift. Patrol was always his favorite assignment.

Steve has received over 25 police commendations, 130 citizen commendations, and several commendations from both the California State Senate and the California State Assembly. He has been the National Exchange Club’s “Officer of the Year”, and Daly City’s first recipient of the “Cal Ripken Award” for work attendance.

After enlisting in the Army Military Police Corps in 1967, Steve served in Germany, Vietnam, and the Presidio. He joined the Daly City Police Department in 1969 and won top honors by graduating first in his class at the Police Academy. In 1974, he was promoted to Detective and then to Sergeant. “Mr. A”, as his students call him, has made a smooth transition from “cop to classroom.” He stays current in the Criminal Justice field and enjoys the opportunity to bring his experiences to Skyline.
